Anne Hathaway Is 'Breaking Upwards'

Anne Hathaway, boyfriend Adam Shulman join director Daryl Wein at the Los Angeles premiere of IFC’s Breaking Upwards at the Silent Movie Theater on Friday (April 8) in Los Angeles.

Breaking Upwards is based on an actual experiment devised by both Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister Jones in real life after their four-year relationship battling codependency. The film loosely interprets a year in which the two explore alternatives to monogamy and what comes along as a result.

Asked about how their friends reacted to the experiment of opening up their relationship, Daryl told the NY Daily News, “Across the board, everyone was like, ‘What are you doing? There’s no way this could work!’ But we thought it was a smart thing to do, and we still do think that. We started dating when Zoe was 21 and I was 19. We learned a lot about ourselves and each other that year. The most difficult thing was emotionally keeping those other relationships separate from what we were.”
