Future 'Idol' Contestants To Make Music Videos

Changes are on the way for American Idol‘s 10th season – and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is sharing all of the details!

Here’s what to expect, via TV Guide:

  • Contestants will make music videos, promote themselves and work with a band and dancers for a showstopping performance similar to what you’d see at an awards show.
  • There will not be a Top 24 round this year – rounds will start at the top 12!
  • Theme weeks will center around decades instead of particular artists – contestants will enlist in the help of Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine as their in-house mentor.
  • Idol will be back on FOX beginning Wednesday, January 12!
