'Avatar: The Way of Water' Projected To Earn Over $135 Million For Its Opening Weekend

Avatar: The Way of Water will hit theaters in just a few more weeks and according to reports, the film is expected to make a ton of money for its opening weekend.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

According to tracking provided by Box Office Pro, the movie is projected to make more than $135 million in its opening weekend domestically.

For the original movie, which debuted in 2009, it brought in $77M for the opening weekend.

The projections also call for the sequel to make $475M domestically by the conclusion of its theatrical run, which is lower than earlier reports and about half of what Avatar made domestically, ScreenRant adds.
