Bret Michaels: Broken Nose Pictures

Bret Michaels shows off a swollen nose and bloody upper lip from the injuries he sustained during his 2009 Tony Awards performance. (Watch the video below of a Tony’s set piece descending on Bret.)

The 46-year-old Poison frontman’s reps blasted the Tony’s for dismissing the incident. “I find it surprising that a Tony spokesperson would brush off this incident with a comment stating ‘Mr. Michaels missed his mark’ with no mention of concern for his condition,” spokesperson Janna Elias says in the statement. “If everyone at the Tonys [was] aware that Bret missed his mark, then they should have been aware enough to stop the set piece from hitting him or at least slowed it down until he cleared the stage. I feel had this incident happened to Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton or Elton John, the Tonys would have at least issued a letter of concern.”

The statement continues, “The full extent of his injuries remains to be seen until all x-rays are back.”

Neil Patrick Harris Hosts 2009 Tony Awards

Neil Patrick Harris attends the 2009 Tony Awards held at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday (June 7) in New York City.

If you’re on the East Coast, tune into CBS now!!! The opening number started off with Elton John singing and Billy Elliot boys dancing. It then moved onto the casts of West Side Story, Guys & Dolls, Rock of Ages (with Poison’s Bret Michaels, Pal Joey, Next To Normal, Shrek, 9 to 5 (with Dolly Parton), Liza’s at the Palace (with Liza Minnelli), and Hair!

Basically all of Broadway was on stage at Radio City Music Hall during the opening number. Standing O!

NPH joked, “I’m told that was the biggest and most expensive number in the history of the Tony Awards… And that is why I am the host tonight (tilts head).”

P.S. I was lucky enough to attend the Tony’s rehearsals earlier this morning and you’ll want to stick around for the closing number. Let’s just say it involves NPH! More tweets from the rehearsals @jaredeng.

Nicole Kidman To Hit 2009 Tony Awards

Nicole Kidman is dressed casually as she leaves for work in New York City on Saturday morning (June 6).

The 41-year-old Aussie actress and Anne Hathaway are expected to be at the Tony Awards on Sunday held at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall.

When Tony Awards host Neil Patrick Harris was asked if he’s going to ask them to be on How I Met Your Mother, he joked to E!, “We should be so lucky. I do know that Nicole Kidman was nude for a big part of a Broadway season”that could help boost our ratings!”More Here! »

Neil Patrick Harris To Host Tony Awards

Neil Patrick Harris will host the 2009 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 7, live from NYC’s Radio City Music Hall.

“The discipline of live theatre — doing the same perfect thing night after night, eight times a week — never ceases to amaze me,” the 35-year-old How I Met Your Mother star said in a press release. “I’m truly honored to have been chosen as the Master of Ceremonies for this year’s Tony Awards, and I hope to help provide a first-class evening for all.”

The Tonys will air live @ 8-11PM ET/PT on CBS.

Last week, NPH told me that he plans to go back to Broadway someday. “I would love to [move back to NYC] when HIMYM is done,” NPH told JustJared.com. “I think we’ll move back to the east coast. The pulse of the city is so strong, the heartbeat here, I think it’s a better place to live day to day. Definitely theater. [My partner David Burtka is a big theater actor too, so he misses it as well.”
