15 Real Life Soap Opera Couple Breakups, Including Called Off Engagements, Divorces & 1 Love Triangle That Could Be the Plot of a Show

Relationship drama often drives the plot of our favorite soap operas, and a happy ending isn’t always right around the corner.

Some characters find a fairytale love story, but it’s rarely without a few bumps along the road. After all, affairs, amnesia and so many other unexpected plot twists make it pretty hard for a relationship to go the distance.

There isn’t often quite as much drama in real life, but the set of a soap opera is actually a spot where romantic relationships are born between costars. While there aren’t as many wild plot twists, these love stories can be nearly as contentious as the ones we see onscreen.

And they aren’t all guaranteed to last.

We previously rounded up 15 soap opera couples who are dating in real life, including one that has been married for nearly 50 years!

However, we were able to find as many former couples who have broken up. Several actors have dated and even married multiple costars. Others made it decades before deciding to call things off.

The list also includes stars who divorced and called of engagements or simply broke things off. There’s also one iconic love triangle that started out as the plot of a popular soap opera before bleeding over into real life!

Heather Locklear Doesn't Blame James Naughton for a 'Gross' Moment Filming 'First Wives Club'

Heather Locklear has no ill will.

The 58-year-old actress doesn’t blame James Naughton for making her uncomfortable on the set of The First Wives Club in 1996 following an appearance on the podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald.

Earlier in the week, Heather said it was “gross” was he touched her breast while filming a scene, saying that the scene did not require him to do so.

“He doesn’t grab [my breast]. He actually outlines my areola with his finger. It didn’t say that in the script,” she clarified on the podcast.

James hit back at the claim, sharing a page from the script that required his character to “subtly using his finger to feel [Locklear’s character’s] breast.”

James remembers shooting this scene as written in the script. He completely understands that Heather would have felt uncomfortable shooting this scene, as he felt uncomfortable as well,” his rep told Yahoo Entertainment.

“Oh no, I didn’t mean James Naughton did anything wrong. The script called for him to touch my breast. I was surprised that he circled my areola. We had not discussed the scene prior to filming…To be clear, I was never upset with James, just surprised. Love you JamesHeather then clarified on her Instagram on Thursday (July 29).

James’s rep told Page Six he had a statement: “From James: ‘Love you back, Heather.’”
