The Richest Marvel Villains Ranked, & Does the Villain With the Largest Net Worth Beat the Wealthiest MCU Hero?

Any fan of superhero movies knows that a potential blockbuster is only as good as the villain that their favorite heroes face off against.

Thankfully, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that’s never a problem! The iconic franchise has amassed an incredible lineup of heroes and an equally popular crew of supervillains who are always trying to ruin the day.

Of course, part of what makes the MCU so great is the multitude of morally gray characters. Take Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki, for example. He’s a villain who is beloved to many for his enduring heart of gold. On the flip side, Elizabeth Olsen‘s Scarlet Witch embraced her dark side, becoming the villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The other thing that makes Marvel’s villains a treat is that we often get mega-stars in the role. Hollywood icons and talented newcomers alike have suited up as evildoers.

With such a talented group, you might be wondering who has amassed the largest approximate net worth over the years? We did some digging and put together a ranking from lowest to highest, and the top earner beats the competition with a worth of around $200 million!

Was that also enough to beat out the wealthiest hero in the MCU?

Hugo Weaving Reveals Why He's Not Part of 'The Matrix 4'

Another character you won’t be seeing in The Matrix 4 is Hugo Weaving, aka Agent Smith.

The 60-year-old actor talked with Collider and revealed that there were plans to have him back, but things didn’t work out.

“Lana [Wachowski] was very keen for me to be a part of [The Matrix 4]. I really wanted to because I’m very, very fond of all of them,” Hugo explained. “I had some initial reticence about the idea of going back to revisit The Matrix, after having already done three films, but then I read the script and got an offer to my agent.”

He added that he “immediately responded yes to that, and then we went into negotiation.”

However, that’s when things got a little messy with scheduling dates.

“I was doing a play, at the time, but we were working out dates and things so that I could do both. And then, Lana decided that she didn’t wanna change her dates, so I couldn’t do it,” Hugo added. “In a nutshell, that’s what happened.”

This other original Matrix star won’t be in the fourth movie either…

Hugo Weaving Reveals Why He Didn't Return as Red Skull for 'Avengers' & It's Because Negotiating with Marvel Was 'Impossible'

Hugo Weaving is explaining why he did not return as Red Skull for the Avengers movies and instead, was replaced by actor Ross Marquand as the voice the character in Infinity War and Endgame.

If you don’t know, Hugo played the villainous role in the 2011 movie Captain America: The First Avenger, and signed on to reprise the role twice more (which never happened).

“Oh, yeah. I loved playing that character Red Skull – it was a lot of fun. We were all obliged to sign up for three pictures: I was thinking [Red Skull] probably wouldn’t come back in ‘Captain America’ but he may well come back as a villain in ‘The Avengers,’” Hugo explained to Time Out London. “By then, they’d pushed back on the contracts that we agreed on and so the money they offered me for ‘The Avengers’ was much less than I got for the very first one, and this was for two films. And the promise when we first signed the contracts was that the money would grow each time. They said: ‘It’s just a voice job, it’s not a big deal.’ I actually found negotiating with them through my agent impossible. And I didn’t really wanna do it that much. But I would have done it.”

Meanwhile, Marvel fans are going to want to see these new set photos!
