The Richest 'Elf' Cast Members, Ranked (& the Top Earner's Net Worth is Double No. 2's)

Christmas is right around the corner, and it’s that time of the year to pull out your copy of Elf.

The holiday movie ranks up with Mariah Carey‘s always chart-topping “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in terms of modern festive classics, and many of the movie’s stars have enjoyed successful careers and amassed impressive net worths since it was released in 2003.

Of course, two of the movie’s most recognizable stars are Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel who played off each other as a romantic pairing. However, it also features the likes of Peter Dinklage, James Caan and Mary Steenburgen.

Since it’s debut, Elf has likely been viewed annually in homes across the globe. It features iconic lines – “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color,” for example – and is funny but heartwarming. What’s not to love?!

This Is Why An 'Elf' Sequel Never Happened, According to James Caan

Elf has made its way into classic Christmas territory since it was released in 2003.

Starring Will Ferrell, James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenbergen, Ed Asner and Bob Newhart, the film centered on Buddy, who was raised by elves and is shocked to find out he’s actually a human who stowed away in Santa’s sack.

He goes in search of his real father in New York City, in hopes to start a relationship with him and make him believe in the magic of Christmas again.

While Will and Jon have both touched on a sequel in the past, James, who played Walter Hobbs, is saying that a sequel never happened because the two didn’t get along.

James appeared on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan’s Bull & Fox show (via The Wrap), where he said that there were plays to “do (a sequel) and I thought, ‘Oh my god, I finally got a franchise movie, I could make some money, let my kids do what the hell they want to do.’”

However, it didn’t come to fruition.

“The director and Will didn’t get along very well…So, Will wanted to do it, he didn’t want the director, and he had it in his contract, it was one of those things.”

Elf earned $220.4 million in world wide box office, on a 33 million budget, making it a massive success.
