'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' Director Jason Reitman Reveals How He Got [SPOILER] To Play Gozer

Jason Reitman is opening up about that huge celeb cameo in the post credits scene for Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

The 44-year-old director of the movie, who took over the Ghostbusters reigns from his own dad, Ivan Reitman, chatted in a new interview about how the cameo came together for the personification of Gozer, who was first mentioned in the 1984 movie.

Gozer is actually an ancient entity from another universe who wreaks havoc on New York City in that first movie. Now, they returned after being heralded in the middle of Oklahoma, where Ivo Shandor had built a throne to worship it.

Paul Rudd Attends 'Ghostbusters' Premiere in NYC with Original Stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd & Ernie Hudson!

Paul Rudd hits the red carpet at the premiere of his brand new movie, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, held at AMC Lincoln Square Theater on Monday night (November 15) in New York City.

The 52-year-old recently crowned Sexiest Man Alive was joined at the event by original franchise stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, and also director Jason Reitman.

McKenna Grace, Carrie Coon and Celeste O’Connor, who also star in the movie, were spotted on the red carpet too.

Guests at the premiere included Aldis Hodge, Jeremy Sisto, Jaimie Alexander, August Maturo, Brett Gray, Naomi Watanabe, Will Buie, Meg Donnelly, Chloe Flower, Questlove, and Jason‘s father Ivan Reitman.

Carrie Coon Joins Her Young 'Ghostbusters' Co-Stars for Surprise Screening at New York Comic Con!

The cast of Ghostbusters: Afterlife had the best surprise for fans at New York Comic Con!

Cast members Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim were in attendance at the film’s panel on Friday (October 8) at the Javits Center in New York City.

The cast – along with writer-director Jason Reitman, co-writer Gil Kenan, and producer Ivan Reitman – surprised the fans by giving them a sneak peek screening of the entire film.

“My father and I think you’ve waited long enough,” Jason said. He added, “Please don’t spoil it in the end.”

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was supposed to hit theaters on July 10, 2020, but the release date was delayed because of the pandemic. Now, it will be finally hitting theaters on November 19.

Dan Aykroyd Says Upcoming 'Ghostbusters' Movie is 'Scary'

Dan Aykroyd is opening up about the upcoming Ghostbusters!

During a recent trip to Toronto, the 66-year-old actor – who starred in the 1980′s films in the franchise – teased about what fans can expect in the upcoming installment directed by Jason Reitman.

“Jason has written a beautiful script, I can’t say too much about it but it’s going to get made and hopefully there’ll be some familiar faces,” Dan told The Canadian Press. “This just takes it to a new generation and a new direction that is so warm, heartfelt, and indeed, quite scary when you confront some of the issues that are being discussed.”

The new Ghostbusters is slated to hit theaters on July 21, 2020.

Jason Reitman to Direct Upcoming 'Ghostbusters' Movie!

Jason Reitman is reportedly set to direct the upcoming movie in the Ghostbusters franchise!

Sony Pictures is keeping the film franchise in the family as Jason‘s dad Ivan Reitman directed the first two films.

Not much is known about the secret Ghostbusters movie, but Jason reportedly co-wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan. Sources say that it could be a continuation of the 1984 sequel and not connected to the female-fronted 2016 film, according to Variety.

Ivan‘s company Montecito Pictures is producing the film.
