Frank Ocean Reveals He Gets His Unique Style from Joan Rivers

Frank Ocean is on the cover of W Magazine‘s new issue celebrating “The New Originals.”

The 31-year-old singer shares the cover with up-and-coming Spanish singer Rosalia. Here is what they shared with the mag:

Frank on finding his unique style: “[Joan Rivers] Rest in Peace. My legend…She was Sick! I mean, unapologetic. I think that ‘F–k who sees me’ energy, ‘This is what I am giving. Period’ is what I relate to in ballroom culture – it’s this extroversion manifest.”

Frank on what gave him the desire to pursue music as a career: “I remember feeling no attachment to music necessarily, more an attachment to what music could bring if I succeeded, you know financially. And that meant freedom from my situation at the time, and maybe what I was projecting onto my own future.”

Rosalia on her childhood growing up in Barcelona: “I would always change my Barbies. I’d cut their hair, paint on tattoos, and create new clothes for them. I would invent elaborate stories: fights, dramas, successes. I would try out my ideas on them and sometimes they would sing!”

Melissa Rivers Talks Playing Mom Joan in Movie 'Joy'

Melissa Rivers is fresh-faced while making her way through LAX Airport for a flight out of town on Tuesday (December 22) in Los Angeles.

The 47-year-old television personality recently spoke with Vanity Fair about playing her mom Joan Rivers in the upcoming movie Joy.

“I think she would be a little miffed that they didn’t have Cate Blanchett playing her,” Melissa said. “I think she would have wanted Cate or Helen Mirren, had it been in the later years, because, of course, when you think of my mother you think of willowy and English.”

“I wanted to make sure that it didn’t became a caricature or an impersonation,” Melissa added. “I did work very hard on the speech pattern, and the tone, because I didn’t want it to become an impersonation. That’s what I was most frightened of. This was at the beginning of QVC and our [fashion] company is still going. It was such a big part of her life.”
