Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of 2004 vice presidential candidate John Edwards, has lost her battle with cancer at the age of 61.
Elizabeth was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2004, shortly after her husband lost the bid for vice presidency.
She passed away in her home today (December 7) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina surrounded by her family.
In a statement, her family said “Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth‘s presence but she remains the heart of this family. We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life.”
