An inquest into the cause of death of model Peaches Geldof revealed that she died from a heroin overdose, USA Today reports.

Coroner Roger Hatch said earlier today that the 25-year-old British model took a fatal dose after trying to come off of the drug.

It was revealed that Peaches was an addict and had been on the substitute methadone for two and a half years. Her husband, Thomas Cohen, said she recently relapsed and hid drugs in the loft of their home.

Peaches is also survived by her two sons, Astala, 2, and Phaedra, 1.

Peaches was found dead in her home in early April.

Peaches Geldof‘s cause of death has reportedly been revealed to be from a heroin overdose, the BBC reports.

Det Ch Insp Paul Fotheringham, said in a statement, “Recent use of heroin and the levels identified were likely to have played a role in her death.”

Sadly, this is all too familiar to Peaches‘ family as her mother Paula Yates also died from a heroin overdose back in 2000, something which reportedly haunted the young TV personality over the past decade.

The last thing that Peaches posted to her Instagram page, just a day before her death, was a photo of herself as a young child in the arms of her mother.

Peaches Geldof‘s body has been released to her family after the inconclusive autopsy was performed and toxicology results are in progress.

“We can confirm that the body has been released to the family for funeral arrangements to be made,” a spokesman for the coroner told the BBC.

The toxicology results are not expected for about three weeks and until that time, and her case will likely not be revisited until the results are in.

“My beautiful baby sister… Gone but never forgotten. I love you, Peaches x,” Fifi, 31, wrote on her Instagram account of her 25-year-old sister, who passed away suddenly on Monday (April 7) in Wrotham, Kent in England.

“At this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained and sudden,” the Kent Police said a statement about her death.

Peaches Geldof‘s final message to the world was a tribute to her mom Paula Yates, who died in September 2000 at the age of 41 due to a drug overdose.

“I remember the day my mother died, and it’s still hard to talk about it,” Peaches told Elle last year. “I just blocked it out. I went to school the next day because my father’s mentality was ‘keep calm and carry on.’ I didn’t start grieving for my mother properly until I was maybe 16.”

Just hours before her untimely death on Monday (April 7), Peaches posted a photo on her Twitter and Instagram pages of herself and her mom with the caption “Me and my mum.”
