Viola Davis gets support from former co-stars Meryl Streep and Jessica Chastain while being recognized at the 2023 Chaplin Award Gala honoring Viola Davis at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center on Monday (April 24) in New York City.

The 57-year-old Women King actress received the prestigious award as a tribute to her many successes in the industry. She stunned in a strapless black dress with gold fringe and received support from husband Julius Tennon.

Meryl opted for a black pantsuit, and Jessica dazzled in a sequined dress with a bold pattern and plunging neckline.

It looks like Lily James and Matt Smith are friendly exes!

The former couple was spotted partying the night away after attending the BFI London Film Festival Luminous Gala on Thursday night (September 29) at The Londoner Hotel in London, England.

Lily and Matt met back in 2014 on the set of the movie Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and they seemingly ended their relationship by early 2020.

Photographers caught Lily and Matt leaving the venue within five minutes of each other and they were both joined by friends upon their exits.

Tons of other celebs were also at the event, including Rebel Wilson, Eddie Redmayne, Tilda Swinton, Daisy Ridley, and many more.

Letitia Wright wears a bright pink pantsuit for the premiere of their film Mangrove during the 2020 BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday evening (October 7) in London, England.

The 26-year-old actress joined director Steve McQueen on the red carpet, where they pulled a Will Smith move on each other, while maintaining social distance.

Rochenda Sandall, Shaun Parkes and Malachi Kirby were also seen at the premiere for the opening ceremony.

Mangrove is one of five Small Axe films created by Steve McQueen, premiering today in selected cinemas across the UK and coming to BBC One and iPlayer on November 15.

The film is the “true story of the Mangrove 9, a group of Black activists who clashed with London police during a protest march in 1970, and the highly publicized trial that followed. The trial was the first judicial acknowledgment of behavior motivated by racial hatred within the Metropolitan Police.”

Steve McQueen is providing an update on his Small Axe series.

What originally was supposed to be an anthology TV series will now be five feature films, IndieWire reports.

The five movies will be titled Lovers Rock, Mangrove, Alex Wheatle, Education, and Red, White and Blue.

The five films of Small Axe tell “personal stories about London’s West Indian community from the late-1960’s to mid-1980’s. The title is derived from an African proverb, which has resonance throughout the Caribbean, ‘if you are the big tree, we are the small axe.’ This was made popular by Bob Marley and the Wailers with the song ‘Small Axe’ from the 1973 album ‘Burnin,’” according to BBC’s official synopsis.

Along with the change, Steve all announced that the movies will be dedicated to George Floyd after his tragic death.

“I dedicate these films to George Floyd and all the other black people that have been murdered, seen or unseen, because of who they are, in the US, UK and elsewhere,” Steve said in a statement. “If you are the big tree, we are the small axe. Black Lives Matter.”

Steve McQueen directed and co-wrote the Small Axe films, which don’t have release dates yet.

Levin Award for Film Direction; Amy with the Peter J. Owens Award for Acting; and Boots with the Kanbar Award for Storytelling.
