Marcia Cross is getting candid about her battle with anal cancer.

The 57-year-old actress was diagnosed with the disease a year-and-a-half ago but is now in remission.

“I know there are people who are ashamed. You have cancer! You have to then also feel ashamed? Like you did something bad, you know, because it took up residence in your anus? I mean, come on, really. There’s enough on your plate,” Marcia told CBS.

During her treatment, Marcia also learned that her cancer was likely caused by the same HPV strain that caused her husband Tom Mahoney‘s throat cancer.

According to the CDC, HPV causes more than 90 percent of anal cancers and can also cause cancer of the cervix, genitals, and throat.

But the types of HPV that most commonly cause cancer can be prevented by a vaccine, which Marcia is now encouraging people to get.

She says her 12-year-old twin daughters, Savannah and Eden, will get their first shot in a few weeks.

The 56-year-old former Desperate Housewives star showed off her fiery red hair in a gray sweater and jeans while her husband kept things cool in a gray polo shirt and jeans as they spent the afternoon picking up some Christmas gifts.

This is one of the first times Marcia has been spotted out since she revealed she recently battled cancer.

Marcia kept her journey mostly under wraps, until she proudly announced in September that she was healthy and cancer free.

“I am POST cancer. All good now. Hard journey, but I am HEALTHY, happy, and more present and grateful than ever,” Marcia shared at the time.

The 50-year-old actress brought her 5-year-old daughters to a local ice skating rink and bought them some hot beverages!

Marcia Cross, husband Tom Mahoney and their adorable twins Eden and Savannah go out for a day of family fun on Saturday (November 14) in Century City, Calif.

The 47-year-old Desperate Housewives actress and her family grabbed lunch and took in some music from a guitarist, though the Eden and Savvy, 2, looked a little shy around him!

Marcia recently told Ellen DeGeneres that her girls have unique fashion senses already.

“I have one who will only wear navy blue from head-to-toe – that’s Savannah, who we call Savvy….Eden will only wear a green shirt and black pants.

“It looks like I’m a really boring dresser and I dress my kids that way, but truthfully, it was their choice!”

Desperate Housewives actress Marcia Cross‘s husband Tom Mahoney has been diagnosed with cancer, according to People.

While details are limited, Marcia‘s rep has stated, “He is currently under treatment and is responding very well.”

Tom, 51, and Marcia, 46, were married on June 24, 2006. On Feb. 20, 2007, they gave birth to fraternal twin daughters, Eden and Savannah.
